About this guide
Abisko Tourism is an independent travel guide to Abisko in Swedish Lapland, its national park, Torneträsk and the ski villages of Björkliden and Riksgränsen. It is written by Patrick Kühne, a travel publisher based in Germany who runs a small group of guides to single destinations.
Not the official tourist office
This site has no link to the municipality, the park authorities or any tourism body. Abisko belongs to the municipality of Kiruna, and its official destination organisation is Kiruna Lapland, at kirunalapland.se. It is run as an economic association by its members and operates the only authorised tourist centre in the municipality, at Malmvägen 9B in Kiruna.
Abisko National Park is managed by the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten (Länsstyrelsen Norrbotten), and the land belongs to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, which publishes visitor information at sverigesnationalparker.se. The Aurora Sky Station and the mountain station at Abisko Turiststation are run by the Swedish Tourist Association (STF), at swedishtouristassociation.com. For opening hours, park rules and lift tickets, their pages have the last word.
Where the facts come from
Distances, timetables, opening hours, sun times and climate figures are taken from official or first-hand sources: Kiruna Lapland, Sveriges nationalparker and the County Administrative Board for the park, STF for the Aurora Sky Station, SMHI for precipitation and the lake, the Swedish Transport Agency for winter tyres, Swedavia for Kiruna Airport, the Björkliden and Riksgränsen resorts, Visit Narvik, and the US Naval Observatory for sunrise, sunset and twilight. Each page lists the sources it relies on. We checked them in October 2026.
Where sources disagree, we say so or leave the detail out. Where two official pages disagree, we follow the body in charge and say so. The visitor centre in the park is one example: we give the winter hours published by Länsstyrelsen Norrbotten, which runs it, rather than the different date on the national park website. The night train timetable changes with a new contract from December 2026, which is why the travel pages give no departure times.
How the site earns money
Tour cards and comparison tables link to GetYourGuide and, for tours that are not listed there, to Viator. When you book through these links we receive a commission, and your price stays the same. Prices, ratings and review counts come live from the booking platform. We do not write them.
We are not a tour operator and do not sell tours ourselves. Questions about a booking, a cancellation or a refund go to the platform or to the operator named in the table. Some useful things, such as the chairlift, the visitor centre or train tickets, cannot be booked through us at all, and the pages link to the official sellers instead.
How tours are chosen
A tour appears here when it starts in Abisko or Björkliden, or collects you there, and fits the topic of the page. Tours that start in Kiruna are only listed when they take place around Abisko and the pickup in Abisko is stated on the tour page. We leave out pure transfers, clothing rental, hotels and tours whose guest reviews are clearly weaker than the alternatives. Duration, pickup points, age limits and what is included come from the tour pages. When the platform stops listing a tour, it disappears from this site automatically.
Photos
The photos come from Unsplash and Pexels and illustrate the activities. Captions describe only what the picture shows and name the photographer. Several activity pictures were taken elsewhere in Sweden, in Finland or abroad, and in that case the caption does not name a place.
